Everyone has the right to feel safe all the time
Make sure that you think about what you do and how it affects others.
What is anti-social behaviour?
Anti-social behaviour is also known as ASB. ASB is anything that causes harassment, alarm or distress to someone who doesn't live with you. It’s things that can upset the people that live around you.
ASB can include things like:
- Damage to things that belong to other people
- Graffiti
- Litter
- Firework
- Neighbours
- Dogs
- Noise
- Cars
ASB can start out as ‘a bit of fun’ with your friends but it can become very serious. If it goes too far, you can damage the place you live in, other people’s property, or even yourself.
What can the police do?
When you behave in an anti-social way, police officers can:
- Take your name and address
- Take you home
- Send a letter home
If you continue to behave in the same way, they may suggest an Acceptable Behaviour Contract (ABC). An ABC is a promise that you will stop behaving like this. They will check up on you to make sure you are keeping your promise.
What can I do?
Remember, we all have the right to feel safe all the time and we can talk with someone about anything.
If you are worried about ASB, speak to an adult. This could be:
- Your teacher
- Your family
- Another adult that you trust
They can help you decide what can be done.
